The Penthouse

This is my newest stand that I have built. It is built in a 3 acre field where I have about half the field planted just for deer and turkeys. I wanted a stand that I could spend a lot of time in so I made it very comfortable. It has gas heat, insulated doors and window, electricity, and completely finished on the inside.

I can easily draw my bow back and shoot out of every side. I built stairs instead of a latter because I am 53 years old and know that someday I will need them. I am able to move around inside and not be seen by the deer. I can even talk on the cell phone and not be heard with deer standing 10 yards away.

Yesterday (Nov. 17) I hunted out of the penthouse stand in the evening. I had 8 does come to feed in the foot plots. 3 different bucks came checking out the does but none were shooters. Well, one will be by the end of the year if I don't see anything bigger. He is a nice 8 point but really needs another year.

Well, I had to work all week (bummer) and finally got off today to hunt the end of the deer muzzle loader season. Not much happened this morning, just a couple of deer but no shooters. I was hunting out of the condo blind and now that most of the leaves are off the trees I can see a long ways.

Oh, I'll see some good bucks here if I keep hunting the stand. This evening I will be back at the Penthouse stand hunting over the food plot. But during the day I have a ton of things to catch up on.

This is my Condo stand. It is 16 feet high and you come into it through the floor. It has a trap door in the floor that is carpeted and from the inside you can't even see it. I insulated all the walls, floor and ceiling. I put sliding plexiglass windows all around the blind.

Like I said it is carpeted and is completely finished on the inside. I have a fold down table top and a 6' X 2' bench seat covered and well padded (too soft sometimes, I have been known to take a nap). I heat it with a propane Buddy Heater.

I put speakers up on one end that will hook up to my ipod and a clock on the other end. I light it with a battery operated light. I have a Verizon Wireless USB720 Modem that picks up real well for my laptop. And of course I carry my cell phone with me just in case.

I've taken some very good deer from this stand and tons of pictures and movies. With the acorn crop we have this year it should be another great year out of the condo. When the leaves get through falling I will take my lawnmower and blow a trail all the way from my home to the stand for quiet entry.

I hunt on my own property these days and have several tree stands scattered around in different spots. My 2 favorite stands are called the Penthouse and the Condo. Both are enclosed stands that allows me to move around some. I just can't stay still like I use to.

I have hunted out of stands just like the group picture stand. I still have my climber but rarely use it. I am looking forward at seeing pictures of your stands and listen to your ideas for new ones.

Stay safe and happy hunting.
